Objective:

This course will enable students to know concept of IPR and its types.

Course Outcomes:

CO1: Understand the rationale for and against IPR

CO2: Understand why India has adopted an IPR Policy and be familiar with Indian IPR System

CO3: Understand different types of intellectual property rights in general and protection of products derived from research or innovations

CO4: Understand broad outline of IPR regulations related to application particularly patents, Trade secret, copyright, industrial design and Traditional knowledge

CO5: Understand importance of IPR

CO6: Contribute effectively in course-specific interaction

Concept of Property and Intellectual Property; Rationale behind IP System; Category, Types and introduction of IPR; Indian IPR system

Patent & Trade secret

Invention or confidential information and its protection; The Patent Act and its amendments; subject matter of patent protection; Patentability criteria; inventions which are not patentable; Prior-art search, Patent Databases; patent specification, Procedure for Filing of Patent Application

Meaning of copyright; copyright law; Works in which Copyrights subsist; Rights conferred by Copyright; Infringement of Copyrights & remedies

Meaning of Industrial Design; Industrial Design law; Requirements for protection; Procedure for obtaining the Protection, tenure of the protection
