CO 9: understand the laws of Spectroscopy and basic principles of Spectroscopic techniques.

CO 10: employ analytical reseasoning in biological sample separation through Centrifugation techniques

CO 11: apply scientific knowledge to address research problems using electrophoretic separation techniques.

CO 12: employ scientific reasoning in analyzing and  addressing practical problems in Chromatography

  • Introduction to basic principle and applications: Light microscopy (bright field, dark field, phase contrast and fluorescence microscopy), electron microscopy (TEM and SEM)

Optical methods of Analysis
  • Introduction to basic principles and applications: Beer Lambert’s Law  
  • Spectrophotometry (UV-visible, infra red, AAS), Mass spectroscopy

Chromatography
  • Working principle, instrumentation and application of:  Paper Chromatography, Thin Layer Chromatography, Column Chromatography (Affinity Chromatography, Ion-exchange Chromatography, Gel filtration Chromatography or Exclusion Chromatography)

Electrophoretic Techniques
  • Principle, factors affecting electrophoresis- pH, voltage, supporting medium (agar, polyacrylamide, dextran), Agarose gel electrophoresis, PAGE, SDS-PAGE, isoelectric focusing
